Build a Better Baby: Protein Intake and Assimilation

Protein, carbohydrates and fats, often referred to as macronutrients are essential for daily intake.  Adequate protein is essential for building muscle mass.  In pregnancy, protein intake is essential for growing a healthy baby and maintaining a healthy pregnancy.
If one is not consuming adequate fats and proteins, one is most likely consuming excess carbohydrates.  Relying too heavily on carbohydrates predisposes one to high cholesterol due to unstable blood sugars. Diabetes, inflammation and excess weight gain can result.
Inadequate protein intake in pregnancy is linked to preeclampsia, which is actually a symptom of malnutrition.  Often, increasing protein dramatically is what helps to improve preeclampsia or toxemia in pregnancy.
Generally speaking, daily protein intake is approximately 50-60 grams.  In pregnancy, add an additional 25 grams after 20 weeks.  75 grams would meet the protein requirements of pregnancy and help to avoid metabolic problems.  When increasing dietary protein, one may also need to increase their digestion of protein.  The use of digestive enzymes and/or HCL, (betaine hydrochloric acid), can be very beneficial. Consuming protein at each meal, and for snacks, is a good way to ensure protein intake.
Eggs, dairy, fish and poultry are good sources of protein.  One egg contains 6-7 grams of protein.
One half cup of cottage cheese contains 12 grams of protein.
High protein powders are a convenient way to ensure protein intake.  There are non-GMO soy protein powders, whey protein, egg white protein, pea powder and hemp powder, all of which may be added to drinks or cooking.  There are approximately 28 grams of protein in a scoop of whey protein, (which is almost 5 Tablespoons or 28 grams).  Protein powders are easily assimilated as digestion is not required, the protein is already broken down to a small size.
Vegetarians are able to get good quality protein if they include nuts and seed to their diet, and don't rely too heavily on grains.
Here are the protein contents of a few foods for comparison.
Dry beans and legumes: 7-8 grams per 1/4 cup dry.
Sunflower seeds: 8 grams of protein per 1/4 cup.
Almonds: 6 grams protein per 1/4 cup.
Pistachios:  6 grams per 1/4 cup.
Nut butters  are a delicious and high fat (good fat), and protein addition to soups and sauces.  Almond butter, sunflower butter, sesame butter or tahini and cashew butter are all delicious ways to increase your nutrient and caloric consumption..
Adequate fat intake is essential for health, brain health and neurological function.  Daily fat intake should be approximately 25-30 per cent of the total calories consumed.  A lack of good quality fat in the diet can predispose one to depression.  The brain needs fat to function properly.  If one is not consuming adequate fats and proteins, one is most likely consuming too many carbohydrates.
Almond flour, quinoa flour and garbanzo flour are all high protein alternatives to high carbohydrate, gluten flours and as replacements are quite delicious and easy to include in cooking and baking.
High protein, gluten free grains are a very good dietary option.
Wild rice: 6 grams protein in 1/4 cup, twice the protein as brown rice.
Quinoa: 6 grams protein per 1/4 cup.
If one chooses soy as a protein alternative, try to avoid the TVP or hydrogenated soy protein as it is overly processed.  Tofu, edamame, miso or tempeh are good sources of protein.  The detrimental part of the soy, the bean casings are not present.  They have either been removed, not developed or have been broken down by culture or fermentation.
The efficiency of digestive enzymes is what determines the assimilation of the protein.  Enzymes, particularly protease and HCL, hydrochloric acid, assist with the digestion of protein, and lipase and bile assist with the digestion of fats.  Hydrochloric acid, or HCL can be added, taken as a supplement which is made from beets and sold as Betaine HCL.
Other foods can be used as digestive aids.  Apple cider vinegar, 1 teaspoon added to a small amount of water before eating a meal heavy in protein may assist with the breakdown of the protein.
Fresh pineapple contains bromelain which acts as a digestive aid. Fresh and dried papaya contain papain, a powerful digestive aid. Papaya enzymes are also available in tablet form.
Another thing that will aid digestive efficiency is to avoid consuming beverages one half hour before and one half hour after eating, so as not to dilute the digestive enzymes.
Taking additional digestive enzymes, such as a broad spectrum digestive enzyme can help to ensure digestive efficiency.  A broad spectrum digestive aid would contain amylase, protease, lipase and cellulase.  The additional enzymes help to break down foods to their elemental constituents, helping to eliminate under digested food particles from entering the bloodstream where they are tagged as invaders, activating an immune response.  Breaking our foods down adequately insures better absorption, higher utilization and less immune response.
Consuming adequate protein and breaking it down into the elemental constituents is what provides nutrients to build tissue.  Improving digestion at any time is helpful to build optimal health, but during pregnancy, improving digestion will help you to be healthy and happy and help you to grow a healthy, happy baby!

Metabolic typing and food sensitivity testing will provide a personalized program for choosing foods that are compatible with your metabolism.  Unknowingly consuming foods that are incompatible with your system can wreak havoc on an otherwise healthy lifestyle.  Consuming foods one is sensitive to will activate the immune system repeatedly.  Having food sensitivity testing will offer the assurance that the foods you are consuming will not be problematic.
ALCAT food sensitivity testing can provide a personalized rotation food plan.
Metabolic testing to determine individual metabolic challenges and preferences is another way to make sure your nutrition plan is working for you and can be done by our Nutritional Consultants at Prairie Springs Self Health Initiative.  prairiesprings@netins.net  Contact us for more information.

The Importance of Fats and Cell Membrane Permeability

Cell membrane permeability is a basic, essential component of our health.  All of the cells in our bodies are composed of a bi-lipid cell membrane.  The cell membranes are composed of a layer of sterols and a layer of fatty acids, and that balance of fats has a huge influence on our overall health and well being.  That is referred to as surface tension.  Surface tension determines if one is stuck in an anabolic or catabolic state, if one is in an anaerobic or dysaerobic state, if one is prone to soft or hard stools, if  one is prone to polyuria or oliguria.

Surface tension readings are obtained from an individual's urine, which indicates whether one is in an anabolic or catabolic state.  High surface tension can cause anabolism, which is cellular lockdown, nutrients are unable to get into the cells and waste and viruses are unable to exit the cells.  People stuck in an anabolic state may harbor viruses.

Low surface tension is an indicator that the person is unable to hold onto their nutrients. The cells are wide open and things flow in and out too easily.  This is the catabolic state. The person is falling apart, the body is trying to obtain protein by disassembling the body's protein stores, instead of using dietary protein.  This process creates waste products that stress the kidneys.  The SAD (Standard American Diet) is heavily saturated with PUFA's, (Polyunsaturated Fatty Acids), which cause a more catabolic, dysaerobic state.

Through metabolic screening, one is able to obtain surface tension readings.  Surface tension is a player in conditions such as constipation or diarrhea, excessive urination or insufficient urination, and whether one in an anaerobic or a dysaerobic state, (not enough oxygen at the cellular level or oxygen out of control.

Membrane dynamics influence many aspects of an individual's health, especially cellular hydration distribution, often referred to as cellular osmosis and hydration shuttle.

Determining a person's surface tension, and  making dietary suggestions regarding sterol and EFA consumption influences a persons health at a cellular level. Symptoms may be alleviated by this one simple adjustment.

Dr. Emmanuel Revici, known as The Doctor Who Cures Cancer, used surface tension readings to help determine dietary protocols for the many chronic, so-called, incurable cancer patients that came to him.  He had amazing results that greatly impressed top cancer researchers.

As a Nutritional Consultant, surface tension is one of the five homeostatic core control mechanisms that can be influenced through dietary intervention regarding proper intake of sterols and EFA's.
Consider having a metabolic profile done so you know how to proceed with improving your health!

Olive M. Binninger invites you to the formal opening of the John F. Class Health Institution, June 17, 1930.

Healing and helping others is a big part of my family's legacy.  My mother is Myrna J Binninger (White), her grandmother, Olive, opened a healing center after her husband died.  My grandfather, Clifford (Kip) Binninger worked there as a masseur in the 1930's. Here is how the article was presented in the Telegraph Herald at the time.
Great grandma Olive, this is for you, for all time, Love Joanne.

The Formal Opening of the John F. Class Health Institution
1364 White Street, Tuesday June 17, 1930, Dubuque, Iowa

In the effort to work out my own salvation I discovered and designed the John F. Class Health System.  Now, at the age of seventy, I am as hale and vigorous as the average man in his thirty's-this too, despite the fact that my case was pronounced hopeless a score of years ago.
Filled with gratitude for what Health Fumes did for myself, I determined to give humanity the benefits of this wonderful achievement.  Today institutions for the application of my discovery dot the country.  It gives me great pleasure and satisfaction to announce the opening of the health Institution in this city under the capable direction of Mrs. Olive M. Binninger.
I invite you to attend the opening of the John F. Class health Institution at 1364 White Street-
Dubuque, Iowa, Reception from 9A.M.-5 P.M.

The new John F. Class Health Institution is now ready for service.  I urge you to attend the opening.  In order that visitors may inspect all parts of the institution and examine equipment, no treatments will be given on the opening day.  In this Institution will be practiced the same methods which the more than two hundred John F. Class Institutions of the United States and Canada.  The opening affords you a splendid opportunity to learn about the principles of the John F. Class Health System and to see how the treatments are given.  Be sure to visit the institution on the opening day.

New Way to Health Without Drugs or Dieting
Are you worried about your health?  Are you actually suffering with a disease which is causing you untold misery?  If so, the opening of the John F. Class health Institution in this city is vitally important to you.  It offers to you the benefits of a remarkable discovery which has brought renewed health and vitality to those who at one time regarded their afflictions as incurable.  This Health System employs no drugs and no medicine, but relies on Nature's own healing and rejuvenating powers for its astonishing effectiveness.  Read the amazing facts presented here.

A Health Resort at Your Door
There is nothing mysterious about the John F. Class System.  The principle treatment consists of enveloping the body in the fumes of scientifically compounded minerals and oils.  The fumes are applied at temperatures several degrees lower than blood heat, so there is none of the weakening effects of hot vapors, liquids, or adhesives.
The fumes drive out toxins from the body through the pores of the skin and counteract infections which may be present.  Thus the John F. Class Health System goes to the very root of disease.
The functions of the John F. Class System are approximated in the famous health resorts where curative waters, vapors, and mineralized alluvial deposits are provided by Nature.  The benefits of health resorts-and much more- can be found at the local John F. Class Institution without spending time and money for travel.

Many Distressing Ailments Yield to Health Fume
By driving out toxins and by toning up the entire system, the John F. Class Health System assists the body in performing its natural functions.  This is especially effective in the treatment of ailments affecting the muscles, joints and respiratory tracts: for example. arthritis, rheumatism, lumbago, neuritis, sciatica, colds, asthma, catarrh, bronchitis and hayfever.
Frequently the elimination of toxins and infections by means of Class Health treatments has brought relief from diseases so serious that they had been pronounced incurable.   Anyone interested can examine letters from patrons in which the John F. Class Health System is credited with giving prompt and permanent relief from Bright's disease, dropsy, diabetes, eczema, malaria, gall stones, kidney trouble, ulcers of the stomach, high blood pressure, and other afflictions too numerous to mention.

A Pleasant Way to Keep Fit
Only in rare cases does sickness strike without warning.  There are almost always preliminary signals of approaching physical trouble.  Some of these are as follows:  Headaches, vague pains in various parts of the body, nervousness, skin eruptions, insomnia, abnormal drowsiness, susceptibility to cold, indigestion, foul breath, depression, irritability.  Often these symptoms cause worry and inconvenience for months or years before serious illness occurs.
If you followed a strenuous program of dieting and exercise with plenty of outdoor sunshine and fresh air, or if you lived like a primitive man as Nature intended, you could perhaps keep your body in perfect condition or even put it back into good shape after things started to go wrong.  But, the pleasant, easy, practical, and inexpensive way to retain or regain your health is to have a John F. Class Health treatment once in a while.  This drives out the accumulate poisons, purifies the blood, tunes up the organs, and produces a general feeling of exhilaration and well-being.  It fills you with renewed energy and ambition.  it makes the world look brighter and enables you to achieve greater success in your social and business activities.  The little you spend for an occasional John F. Class Health treatment will be repaid hundreds of times over in renewed vitality and happiness.

Learn the Astonishing Facts About Health Fumes
We urge you to attend the opening of our institution.  Get the facts about his wonderful system of preventing and overcoming disease.  See just how the treatments are given.  Take home literature
which tells about the restoration of health and strength to those who were pronounced hopeless.
Find out how little it costs to keep well or to get well by the John F. Class Health System method.
You owe it to yourself and friends to understand what the John F. Class Health System is and what it does.  Learn the truth at first.  The formal opening gives you the chance to do so.  Be sure to take advantage of it.  Consider this a personal invitation to be present.
Come to the opening of our Institution and learn about both the institutional and home treatments.  The information will prove of priceless value to you.  I give you my personal invitation to accept the hospitality of our new Health Headquarters on the opening day.

Mrs. Olive M. Binninger, Director, John F. Class health Institution, Dubuque, Iowa.

A Few of the Many Grateful Tributes to the John F. Class Health Fume System

Rheumatism-I suffered for eight months with sciatic rheumatism and tried everything I could think of for relief.  I  was taken to your institution on a stretcher and carried into your office.  I had not walked a step in seven weeks.  It was a great surprise to my relatives and friends to see the benefit I received
in a short time.  In one week I was walking and in three weeks I was well.  Mrs. H. E. Rodgers, Lacona, Iowa.

Arthritis-When I was brought to your Institution I had not walked a step in two months.  I was nearly helpless.  I had suffered for eight years with arthritis, gradually growing worse all the time.  I had tried all kinds of treatments and was about to give up when I heard of your system.  After taking the treatments for six months I could walk with crutches and a little later I was able to throw them away.  I am now perfectly well.  My friends and relatives were more than surprised to see me walking again as physicians thought I would never be able to.  I will send others to you. Greta Rittgers, Marion, Iowa.

Kidney Trouble-A year ago while suffering from an acute attack of kidney trouble I started taking your wonderful mineral fume baths and felt greatly relieved after the first six treatments.  I continued taking the treatments for two months and was completely cured of my ailment.  I am now enjoying good health and it is indeed a pleasure to recommend Health Fumes.  Ella C. Mastorson, San Francisco, Cal.

High Blood Pressure-I have suffered for high blood pressure for over a year.  The pressure was over two hundred and twenty-five.  I was in the hospital for a long time and no one thought I would live.  At last I went to the John F. Class Fume Institution and took about thirty treatments.  Now I am entirely well, and working every day. Gilbert B. Conner, Jackson, Mich.

Neuritis-A friend recommended that I try the John F. Class Health Fume System for neuritis, with which I had been suffering for fifteen years and I am certainly grateful to say that it has cured me after taking eighteen treatments.  My husband was also cured of high blood pressure.  We cannot thank you enough.

Keepers of the Secrets, Keepers of the Sacred Tales

Midwifery...
It was referred to as "A Calling"
We didn't just get a job, we had...
A Calling.
It was one's LIFE WORK.
What one was put on this earth for...
one's PURPOSE...
a JOB?
This was SACRED DUTY
Education was non-traditional.
Learning came from moms, dads and babies.
We are the Keepers of Secrets,
Keepers of the Sacred Tales,
The Sacred Stories
Some given to be shared
Some given to be held...
the sheer weight of the tale
needing more than one
to  bear the burden,
to simply help to carry it into eternity.

Birth is a passage to womanhood
to Motherhood
to self discovery,
Through giving birth one comes face to face
with one's strengths and weaknesses
of character
as well as one's strengths and weaknesses.
One is introduced to new depths and heights
in preparation for what comes next.
The rest of the journey.
Embrace the journey,
The passage to motherhood.
Savor the moments
Fleeting and bittersweet.
Reap the wisdom and knowledge
that comes from giving birth
unencumbered with fear.
Rejoice in the miracle!
Since the beginning of time
Women have birthed in a sacred way.
NOW IS THE SACRED WAY...

Candida Albicans

Candida albicans is considered an opportunistic infection.  When the immune system is compromised due to illness, poor nutrition, excess intake of refined sugars and simple carbohydrates, or overuse of medications such as antibiotics, yeast growth can proliferate causing many symptoms of illness.
Yeast metabolizes sugar and creates ethanol, acetaldehyde and carbon dioxide as byproducts.  These alcohols cause free radical damage which leads to fermentation in the tissues, which encourages more yeast proliferation.  Yeast causes sugar cravings, which means the yeast calls for what it needs to survive, and does not take well to efforts to eradicate it. The alcohol produced causes foggy thinking, depression, PMS symptoms, poor memory, and many metabolic disturbances.
Candida can manifest as many symptoms that may seem unrelated, therefore it is sometimes difficult to determine if candida is the problem.  Symptoms often go unrecognized.  Candida releases toxins that interfere with the correct functioning of the endocrine system, affecting the thyroid and adrenal glands.  Candida may affect the digestive system with symptoms such as bloating, cramps, diarrhea, constipation and food allergies.  Symptoms of candida can also manifest on the skin as eczema, hives, acne, psoriasis and nail infections.
Candida thrives on sugar, which is in many forms.  Sweet fruits, sugars, honey and carbohydrates such as breads and crackers made with yeast, can accelerate the growth of candida.  Alcohol beverages such as beer and wine can exacerbate yeast overgrowth because their byproducts are the same.  Dairy products contain a high sugar content, though yogurt and kefir are beneficial due to the probiotics.  Pickled, fermented and mold-containing foods are best avoided during a candida cleanse.
Fermented foods contain yeasts or fungus. Cultured food contain beneficial bacteria.
Herbal Natural Options
Herbs that help to discourage candida include chamomile tea, pau d' arco tea, grapefruit seed extract, licorice root tea, black walnut tincture, garlic and caprylic acid among others. One to three months of one or more of the above herbals, three times a day, along with the reduction of sweets and carbohydrates, should give you a good start at reducing candida in your system.  Incorporating those  things on a daily basis and reducing sweet s and carbohydrate consumption will help to reduce yeast overgrowth and aid in achieving optimal health.
Some folks will do a candida cleanse once or twice a year, but it's best to incorporate a well-balanced diet with the reduction of sugar and simple carbohydrates, to re-establish and maintain a healthy inner terrain to minimize yeast growth.  Replace sweets and carbohydrates with complex carbohydrates, vegetables, especially green vegetables, and high quality, varied, nutrient dense foods, proteins and salads.

The Dubious Science of Ultrasound

1940's Cure All-Ultrasonics were used in medicine as therapy utilizing it's heating and disruptive effects on animal tissues. Since the 1920's the destructive ability of high intensity ultrasound has been recognized.  Langevin noted destruction of a school of fishes on the sea upon exposure to ultrasound. He then placed his hand in a water tank with high intensity ultrasound, when his hand became painful he realized the potential for medicine, and ultrasound evolved to become a neuro-surgical tool.  In the 1940's William Fry at the University of Illinois and Russell Meyers at the University of Iowa performed craniotomies and used ultrasound to destroy parts of the brain (basal ganglia) in patients with Parkinsonism.  1964, Kisker, George W., The Disorganized Personality.

In 1954 the value of focused ultrasound as a psycho-surgical technique was first demonstrated.  "High frequency sound waves are directed into the brain and focused on particular areas, and lesions are created in a controlled way. The necessity for cutting into the brain is avoided completely.  Focused ultrasound makes it possible to create tissue changes in the subcortex ranging from minimal reversible lesions to larger areas of gross and irreversible damage." Lindstrom,P., Prefrontal Ultrasonic Radiation-A Substitute for Lobotomy, Arch. Neuro, Psychiatry, 1954.

Dr. Peter A. Lindstrom specialized in the use of ultrasound on the prefrontal area of the brain.
Prefrontal Sonic Treatment (PST), consisted of directing an ultrasound beam about 20 millimeters in diameter, through two or three small holes drilled in the skull on the prefrontal area, involving the white matter of the brain tissue. "This is not a true lobotomy procedure, since neither the surface of the brain nor the brain sheets are cut or punctured."  The operation is carried out in two stages, two days apart. As of 1964, Dr. Lindstrom had performed 550 psychosurgical operations via ultrasound.

Also note:  "The National Institute of Mental Health, the federal government agency charged with the guidance of diagnostic and therapeutic research in the field of mental health, categorically declares that psychosurgery is performed in the absence of direct evidence of existing structural disease or damage of the brain." This quote was from 1978, Samuel Chavkin, The Mind Stealers.

Humanitarian Midwifery

My midwifery career was indeed a calling.  At the time I did not necessarily want to be a midwife.  I'd had my oldest child at home in the 1970's.  There were no midwives doing home births in our area then and we didn't feel comfortable having an unassisted home birth, so we traveled to The Tennessee Farm where we could have the home birth we wanted.  That was where the seed of midwifery was planted.  The midwives were so gentle and loving and the way they helped me birth my baby daughter was so very special, I wanted that for other women.
My midwifery career actually began on a walk, a prayerful walk down a country lane.  In the shadows of the large trees that bordered the country lane, I prayed in a sincere fashion. "Please, I am ready. Show me what I am to do.  I'm ready for my life's work....whatever it is I am supposed to be doing, show me." Not long after that I was invited to a friend's home birth as a photographer.  My second daughter accompanied me to the birth as she was six months old at the time and was still nursing.  There I met the local woman who was serving as community midwife.  She invited me to help out at some of the upcoming births she had scheduled. I learned so very much from her.
One of my favorite lessons was when we were doing a birth for a woman who didn't have much food in the house for her five children.  Our senior midwife came back laden with groceries. I'll never forget it, she said, "Sometimes you get paid for doing the birth, and sometimes you have to buy them groceries."  A beautiful lesson that truly embraced the type of midwifery that I wanted to practice.  Humanitarian midwifery.  I started apprenticing with this most wonderful midwife and she has taught me many things over the years.  She has since retired, but I am blessed to have a most talented midwife extraordinaire as a partner in attending births.
That was thirty four years ago years, that first birth.  I have attended hundreds of births since that time including the births of my grandchildren.  Each birth teaches me something.
As with the birthing mother, those in attendance are also pushed beyond preconceived (no pun intended) notions of limitations of endurance.
The whole universe moves over to allow the entrance of one tiny human being.  The ripple effect is felt, the cosmic entanglements begin.  Tiny yes, but with great impact they arrive, bringing lessons for all they encounter along  the way.
Teachers they are, tiny teachers of universal truths.
When they come into this world, we think we are going to teach them everything we know...instead, they teach us how much we don't know.

How to disempower women and change the course of civilization in 5 easy steps...

Women have lost their faith in themselves and their bodies.  We are taught to seek out the opinions of experts, as if our own perceptions and innate wisdom are not to be trusted.  We are not qualified to determine what is best for ourselves.  Surely our bodies will betray us. Not if, but when?
Birth is an intimate experience.  Most other species birth in privacy.  Disturbing the mother can interfere with the birthing process.  Only human primates need to have a theatre in which to give birth, a large cast of characters and multiple high dollar props.  The high tech machinery alone requires a large amount of space.  We need bright lights, as bright as possible please, and supplies wrapped in obnoxiously noisy paper wrap.  There's no way to unwrap those covertly!  Distractions are the name of the game, lots of people, staff and housekeeping going in and out of the room.  Distractions, measurements, assessments, checks, questions and directions, directed labor, managed labor all keep the mother from going within, where her power and wisdom reside.
Women have been conditioned to fear birth, to fear the pain and travail of birth.  Why be bothered with discomfort when there are pharmaceuticals to alleviate pain?  Why not? Well, what if the pain of childbirth serves a purpose?  I believe it does!  I believe the purpose of the travails of labor is to solidify the bonding between the mother and the baby and to prepare one for the travails of parenting a child.  If drugs are used to alleviate the pain of life, then as a parent you will need a lifetime supply as parenting can be painful.
The extremes of labor brings a woman face to face with her perceived limitations.  Her resources are called upon.  It is not easy, this "labor". It is truly a labor of love.
I believe this was an intentional theft of one of the paths of power available to women.  It was so gradual, and under the guise of alleviating our suffering, that women were not even aware of the damage being done.  Now the path is hidden.  The way is obscured.
Why did women give up their power?  We were deceived, misguided, misled and misdirected.  Not only did they take our births away, they also took our children away.  Women were persuaded to hand over their little darlings to strangers for many hours per day under the guise of the woman finding her power and fulfillment throughout work or a career outside of the home, instead of realizing the sacred work of raising their own children to be human beings.
The stage is set for turning over other important things in your life to the experts, such as your family's health or your child's education. School is where they develop their world view.  Beware the experts! We are then taught to willingly hand over our adult male, and now female children, to defend our corporate world takeover. It is shameful!
Now we have a generally dysfunctional society full of dysfunctional people and dysfunctional families.
Be your own expert.  Acknowledge the truths. Chart a course and sail forth...

Build a Better Baby With Optimal Personalized Nutrition!

Did you know that food plays a vital role in you and your baby's future longevity?
Did you know that mothers who starve themselves during pregnancy are more likely to have a child who suffers from diabetes?
Did you know that the mother's exposure to certain pathogens can be harmful to the baby in utero?
Did you know that your beloved pets may harbor harmful pathogens or parasites?
Did you know that schizophrenia is believed to sometimes be caused by the mother's exposure to certain viruses during pregnancy?
Having your immune system in top shape is one way to build a better baby.
There is a lot of confusing and conflicting information out there when it comes to diet and nutrition.  One way to determine what is best for you is to have metabolic typing done.  Your body chemistry will reveal what the best diet is for you.  Consuming and being able to metabolize nutrients from appropriate foods will go a long way toward better health.
Good maternal nutrition means that every baby will have a chance to realize it's genetic potential and the optimal chance of having a healthy body, a sound mind, and a productive life.
Optimize your baby's potential through metabolic specific nutrition.
Proper knowledge of your metabolic type helps you to avoid the disorders of pregnancy, such as gestational diabetes, preeclampsia and toxemia, lessening stressors on you and your baby.   Correcting your imbalances and optimizing your nutritional status are just the way to prepare yourself for pregnancy.
Consider the importance of knowing your metabolic type so that you can maximize cellular nutrition and grow the best baby possible while minimizing the interferences and immune system activation caused by taking in foods that are not optimal for your metabolism.
Consuming foods that are wrong for your metabolic type actually contributes to many disorders and imbalances.  Undigested food particles may pass through the intestinal wall into the blood stream where they are treated as invaders by the immune system.  Chronic activation of the immune system in this manner may lead to inflammatory conditions which may lead to a host of health problems.
Cardiovascular, digestive, respiratory and chronic skin conditions may be related to inflammatory
conditions influenced by improper foods and/or improper digestion of foods.  Depressive disorders, anxiety and mood disorders may all be related to inflammatory conditions.
Through metabolic typing, you will determine which foods may be helpful or problematic for you.
Everyone is unique and one size does not fit all.
There are ten ways that body chemistry can go out of balance.  Here is a brief overview of the ten imbalances:

Electrolyte Excess-In this imbalance, the kidneys and heart are under stress due to the excess mineral salts in the blood.  The blood begins to sludge, which impairs circulation and raises blood pressure.
There is inefficient transport of oxygen, nutrients, and hormones to the cells.  There is inefficient waste removal from the cells.  Adequate hydration is essential to help with this imbalance.

Electrolyte Insufficiency-People with this imbalance tend to have low energy, low blood pressure, anxiety or depression.  They are low in mineral salts either due to low intake or the body is unable to retain the minerals. Inadequate protein intake or improper digestion of protein can also contribute to this imbalance.

Anerobic or Anabolic Imbalance- In this imbalance, instead of glucose combining with oxygen to make energy, glucose is fermented by the cells and lactic acid is produced.  There are too many sterols in relation to the fatty acids in the cells which affects membrane permeability.  This common imbalance is the chemistry of cancers, osteoarthritis and many other health issues.

Dysaerobic or Catabolic Imbalance- In this imbalance, oxygen metabolism goes too far, producing free radicals but little energy.  There are too many fatty acids and not enough sterols, which makes the cells too permeable.  Tumors can grow rapidly with this metabolic chemistry.

Glucogenic Imbalance-People with this imbalance are called fast oxidizers. The fast burning of carbohydrates produces excess carbon dioxide.  This chemistry is the most common in acid conditions. Fast oxidizers tend to burn up carbohydrates too quickly and have trouble burning fat for energy.  Hypoglycemia, fatigue, unstable blood sugars and weight problems are common with this imbalance.

Ketogenic Imbalance-People with this imbalance are also known as slow oxidizers.  They have trouble using carbohydrates for fuel but burn fats well.  They tend to run more alkaline.  Common problems would be unstable blood sugars, fatigue, weight problems and high blood pressure.

Parasympathetic Stress-The autonomic nervous system helps to regulate body functions that we don't have conscious control over, such as digestion and heart rate. Parasympathetic stress is when one gets stuck in the parasympathetic state.  The digestion is stimulated, the pupils constrict, the heart rate slows, respirations slow and the bronchial tubes constrict.

Sympathetic Stress-Sympathetic is the "fight or flight" response, adrenaline is released, heart rate increases, pupils and bronchial tubes dilate, and digestion slows.  In sympathetic stress, a person may become stuck in this sympathetic reaction.  Nervous tension, insomnia, poor digestion and other health problems may be present.

Acid Imbalance-Not having enough alkali in the system to buffer the acids, often results in poor digestion and assimilation, and joint and muscle pain.

Alkaline Imbalance-  Too much alkali and low acid can impact digestion, cause muscle and joint pain, cause fluid retention, and predispose the person to allergies and fatigue.

Determining your imbalances and correcting them through diet and nutritional changes will lessen immune system activation and lead to a healthier pregnancy and childbirth, and a happier, healthier baby.
Metabolic typing will lead to optimal health during any time of your life, especially during pregnancy. The ability to resist illness and recover quickly, in other words, our adaptive capacity,
can be enhanced with optimal cellular nutrition.
Remember, you are setting the stage for your baby's growth, development, intelligence and adaptability to life's challenges.  All of these are influenced during the prenatal period.
Metabolic typing and individualized nutrition are key to building a better baby.
Build a better baby-build a better you!
